Jane E. Fisher
Jane E. Fisher, of Luther Crest Retirement Community, South Whitehall Township, formerly of
Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2022. Born in Allentown, Jane was the daughter of the late Jeremy and Helen (Ziegenfus) Fisher. Jane was a proud descendant of the Mayflower and a member of the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants. She was a 1949 graduate of
Dana Hall in Wellesley, MA, a 1953 graduate of
Wheaton College in Norton, MA and she received her MS in Library Science from Simmons College in 1957. In Jane's professional career, she worked as a librarian at the Free Library of Philadelphia, then took a librarian position at EI DuPont De Nemours in Wilmington, DE, and according to Jane, her favorite role. Jane paused her career at DuPont to care for her elderly parents. She returned as a librarian at Bethlehem Steel until retiring. After retirement, she worked as a librarian for various school districts in the Lehigh Valley.
Jane was a kind heart and generous supporter of her community and the charities she valued, including: education, literacy, performing arts, health, food and shelter relief, the preservation of history and her church. Jane was a life-long
member of Christ Lutheran Church, Allentown. She volunteered for the Adult Literacy of the
Lehigh Valley and the Historic Bethlehem Partnership. Jane inspired the love of reading and history within her family. She was the family historian and fondly called “aunt” Jane.
Jane's caring nature and sense of humor always produced a smile.
Jane is survived by her cousins Edward Weber, MD of Mercer Island, WA, Ann Weber-Ammar of Woodbury, NJ, Helen Weber-Cetkovic of Milton, MA and their families.
