Ex-Liberty band director recalls performing for Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth II was visiting Philadelphia in 1976 for the Bicentennial

Celebrations. Former Liberty High School band director Ron Sherry said that as fate would have it, there weren’t any British military bands available to play at the occasion, so Liberty High, with its British motifs, played for the queen.

“It was “a lucky break for us,” Sherry said.
