Far-right politicians tout Christian nationalism
It’s been a busy month for anti-democracy Christian nationalists such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who used the political stunt of flying asylum seekers to Washington and Martha’s Vineyard.
U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is selling T-shirts with the words, “Proud Christian nationalist.” What would be the reaction if the T-shirt had “Proud Taliban member” instead?
Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano, who suggested that the Bible forbids Christians from criticizing elected officials like himself, is running one of the most blatantly Christian nationalist campaigns in the country. He describes supporting his campaign as an act of following God and displays his campaign signs with Bible verses.
Can one imagine if a Jewish or a Muslim candidate campaigned in such a manner?
Greene and Mastriano have forgotten that Moses, Jesus and Hussain ibn Ali did hold unjust rulers and corrupt religious leaders accountable.
