2001: Erin Due’s goal gives Pen Argyl a

1-0 Colonial League field hockey win over Bangor, the Green Knights’ first victory over the Slaters in 25 years as well as a schoolreco­rd 11th for the season.

2000: Northampto­n junior Beth Marushak wins her third straight District 11 girls golf title by 13 strokes with a seven-over par 127 for 27 holes at Lehigh Country Club. A year later, Marushak wins the title for the fourth time and caps her scholastic career by winning the PIAA title.

1985: Led by Don Leap (131 yards) and Brian Overcash (106), unbeaten Stroudsbur­g runs for more than 300 yards for the fifth time in six games during a 35-0 win over Palmerton. 1981: Catasauqua gives up its first goal of the season but still beats Nazareth 2-1 in a Colonial League field hockey game to boost its record to 12-0-0.

1976: Lining up at tailback for the first time after playing defense for the first four games, Penn State freshman Mike Guman from Bethlehem Catholic scores four touchdowns to help the Nittany Lions snap a three-game losing streak with a 38-16 win over Army at Beaver Stadium. Guman finishes with 107 yards on 25 carries. Another freshman from the Lehigh Valley, Whitehall’s Matt Millen, makes his first start at linebacker.

1976: Although Pete Radocha, Division II’s leading rusher, is knocked from the game by a first-quarter rib injury, East Stroudsbur­g State College routs Cheyney 41-6 to win its school-record 14th straight game.

1965: Stroudsbur­g dedicates its 6,500-seat football stadium by stopping previously unbeaten Pen Argyl 7-6 on Mike Folks’ 60-yard intercepti­on return.
