Northeast Extension gets a new bridge

Bridge replacement construction continues Saturday on the bridge over Huckleberry Road in South Whitehall Township. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission shut down an 18-mile stretch of the Northeast Extension of Interstate 476 for the weekend, between the Lehigh Valley and Mahoning Valley interchanges. The new superstructure was built near the existing bridge and has been under construction since March 2022. Detours are in place in both directions until 4 a.m. Monday.
