Carbon monoxide scare at Allentown day care

A total of 32 people, most of them children, were taken to area hospitals Tuesday morning after a carbon monoxide leak at Happy Smiles Learning Center in Allentown.

A carbon monoxide gas meter showed it was present in a concentrat­ion more than three times the threshold that can cause death. Most of those who were treated at the hospitals were home by Wednesday.

What’s next? The day care remains closed, but is expected to reopen after repairs.
