Richard Evan “Dick” Nissen, 86, of Allentown, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022, in St. Luke's Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Georgene V. (Barndt) Nissen. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversar­y in July 2022. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Sarah (Jones) Nissen. Dick was a 1954 graduate of Slatington H.S., where he played football, basketball and baseball. He was one of the “Ironmen of 1954” at Slatington H.S. Dick played

minor league baseball with the Philadelph­ia Phillies and the Baltimore Orioles. He worked in Quality Control at General Electric/ Black and Decker for 30 years before the plant closed in 1985. Dick was a lifetime member of the Coplay Saengerbun­d where he enjoyed bowling in their league. He was of the Presbyteri­an faith. Dick and his wife Georgene loved to vacation in Wildwood Crest, NJ, usually twice a year. Survivors: Wife, Georgene; Son: Kurt R. Nissen;

Granddaugh­ters: Markeshia, Deja, Alexis; Greatgrand­children: Anthony, Annabella, Joseph Jr.; Nephews: Robert, Keith, Roger and Richard; Niece: Judith Anton. Dick was predecease­d by brothers George, Harold and David, by sisters Lucille and Catherine and by a nephew Larry. There are no services at this time.
