NCC offers crime scene photography for first responders

-

Digital photography has become an extremely important part of criminal investigations. Lack of documentation, chain-of-custody issues and under or over exposed images are useless in bringing an investigation to a successful resolution.

Northampton Community College will provide a “Crime Scene / Death Scene Photography for 1st Responders — Expanded” course Nov. 14 and 15 at its Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St., Bethlehem. The two-day course will focus on the theories and practices in the basic principles of digital photography as it relates to law enforcement, medicolegal death investigators and fire investigators. Students will have several hands-on practical exercises including a crime-scene photography exercise.

Upon the completion of this course, students will have an understanding of digital file management procedures, proper methods of documenting a crime scene, accepted procedures for first responder photography, and the different camera settings for image documentation in “low light” environments typically encountered. Students should expect some graphic images.

To register, go to Northampton.edu/safety and select “courses.” Course code is FRNSC136. For questions, call 610-332-6596 or email safety@northampton.edu.
