Texas busing 50 migrants to Philadelphia without warning
PHILADELPHIA — A bus carrying around 50 migrants departed Texas bound for Philadelphia on Saturday, according to several news outlets.
Texas officials did not contact Philadelphia ahead of busing the 50-52 individuals seeking asylum, rather Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney learned the news from a community partner, according to CBS Philadelphia.
The city of Philadelphia said it was “disappointing and irresponsible” that Texas officials would send the bus without alerting them, CBS reported. “We do not have an exact location of where the bus will disembark, nor do we have any specific information about those on board, nor do we know if other buses are planned,” the city said.
Nonetheless, the city has been expecting surprise bus loads of migrants to arrive and has prepared for them, CBS said.
The city is coordinating with local social service groups to provide shelter, health screening, food and water, according to CBS.
Some migrants on the bus are from Spanish-speaking South American countries, according to FOX29.
“We are a proud welcoming city and strongly believe that all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Our diversity is our strength,” Kenney said.
The bus is expected to arrive in Philadelphia as early as Monday.
In the past several months, an estimated 13,000 migrants have been bused from Texas and Arizona to Democrat-led cities such as New York, Chicago and Washington D.C., along with the exclusive Democratic enclave of Martha’s Vineyard, to protest President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.
