Election results inspired pride in the country
In response to the midterm results, which weren’t nearly the red wave many pundits predicted, as a Democrat, I couldn’t be prouder to be an American. What a glorious day for our country and for people around the world who look to us as a city on a hill as a beacon for liberty, civil rights and democracy. Voters heard the nonsense blaming President Biden and Democrats for inflation, a struggling stock market and high gas prices, and saw those lies for the political misdirection they really were. Fighting against climate change and for women’s rights, voting rights, free and fair elections, and openness and tolerance for people of all walks of life still remain the bedrock of a progressive, forward-looking nation —the last just cause in the face of authoritarianism, white nationalism and political violence that the Republican Party has increasingly embraced. This was a clear and obvious wake-up call to the GOP: Trump and the MAGA worldview blew it for you. You need to completely renounce them, or suffer more disappointment on voting days in the future.
We can all look at our red, white, and blue flag with a little more pride today.
