Leander M. Stuart
Leander Montrose Stuart, “Monty,” loving husband to Patricia Ann (Stahl) Stuart, of Allentown, PA (formerly of Hellertown, PA) died Wednesday night, October 19, 2022, from complications associated with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Georgetown University Hospital on November 14, 1937, he was the eldest son of the late Leander S. Stuart and Christine Kreh Stuart. Monty grew up in Bethesda, MD and was a chemical engineering graduate of the University of Maryland, earning his BS in 1960 and a Master of Science in 1962. He enjoyed 36 years as an environmental engineer and division manager with Bethlehem Steel Corporation, primarily addressing environmental process control and regulation issues. He was honored with the distinguished Gold Award for his leadership talents on November 14, 1989. Dedicated to his community, he volunteered at Allentown State Hospital from 1968 into the early 1970s.
His volunteer efforts with the Jaycees were recognized in 1971 when he was honored as the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Jaycee’s Man of the Year. Monty was passionate about the Maryland Terrapins and enjoyed fishing, bird watching, and photography.
Surviving are three children, son Jeff Stuart of Cherry Hill, NJ, twin daughters Jennifer Trainor (husband Gerry) of McLean, VA, and Carrie Minahan (husband Paul) of Wernersville, PA, and their mother Kathleen (Dapp) Kaiser; stepson Jim Stahl (wife Kristin) of Loveland, Ohio, and five grandsons; Maclean, Gordon, and Ian
Trainor, Evan and Dexter Stahl. Monty’s siblings include Ann Colliver (Frederick, MD), Lynn
Towle (Williamsport, MD), Christopher Stuart (Annone, Italy), Jeff S. Stuart (Gaithersburg, MD), and James Stuart (Horseshoe Bay, TX). He was preceded in death by sister Carol Watson (Rockville, MD 1986).
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 21st at Stephens Funeral Home, Inc. (274 N. Krocks Rd., Allentown, PA 18106). A visitation hour starting at 11:00 AM will be followed by the service at 12:00 PM, officiated by Monty’s long-time friend and coworker, Deacon Stewart Herman.
