Lena S. Avate, 86, of Bethlehem, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

She was the widow of James Avate. Born on January 26, 1936

in Fountain Hill, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mabel Miranda (Silvius) Schmalzer. Lena worked for the Bethlehem School District as a school aid and custodian.

She was a very active member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Bethlehem. Lena was also heavily involved with scouting earning the Silver Beaver award. Above all she cherished her time spent with her family. Survivors: Lena will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Rickie Avate and wife Maggie of Clayton, NC, Ronnie Avate and wife Jane of Allentown, and Barry Avate and wife Cindy of Walnutport; daughter, Melody Haas and husband Randy of Orefield; 9 grandchild­ren, 11 great grandchild­ren; sister, Dorothy Getz. She was predecease­d by 11 brothers and sisters. Services: A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Trinity U.C.C., 81 E North St, Bethlehem, PA 18018 where the family will receive friends and relatives from 11:30 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifu­neralhome.com.
