Turkey Trot 5K Run & Fun Walk returns to Historic Bethlehem

After stuffing yourself this Thanksgivi­ng, it might be a good idea to try burning off some of those second helpings from the holiday dinner table.

Consider lacing up your comfy shoes and heading to Historic Bethlehem’s Turkey Trot 5K Run & Fun Walk a few days after The Big Meal.

The activities begin at 8 a.m. Nov. 26 (the Saturday following Thanksgivi­ng) along the Colonial Industrial Quarter. The run/walk begins at 9 a.m.

The annual event, now in its 20th year, features a fitness tour for strolling or striding among The Christmas City’s scenic historic district, Main Street, and Sand Island along the Lehigh River.

Prizes for first and second place finishers in the 5K Run and Competitiv­e Walk will be awarded in seven adult categories and three youth categories. First place winners will receive a gift certificat­e from Aardvark Sports Shop and second place winners will receive a turkey.

Start time for the run is 9 a.m. The walk begins at 9:05 a.m.

Starting line: Colonial Industrial Quarter, 459 Old

York Road, Bethlehem

How much: 5K run and competitiv­e walkers — $40 online till Nov. 23 and $45 Nov. 24-25 ... Fun walkers $25 until Nov. 23 and $30 Nov. 24-25.

What you get: Registered runners will receive a Turkey Trot T-shirt, refreshmen­ts, and admission to Historic Bethlehem museums Saturday and Sunday with the race T-shirt or bib.

Best Pet Costume: Get your pup in on the fun for the Best Pet Costume Contest! Contestant­s will meet at the stage at 8 a.m. and will be judged on originalit­y,

execution of design, and Turkey Trot-related theme. Entry is free to participan­ts registered for one of the Turkey

Trot races. Dogs may only participat­e in the Fun Walk.

After the event, you can check out the Holiday

Dinner Art exhibition on the second floor of the Luckenbach Mill featuring local artists including Erin Pryor Gill, Sandra Corpora, Diane Hutchinson, and Elena Shackleton. Also, use your bib or T-shirt for free admission to the Trees of Historic Bethlehem exhibition,

open until 6 p.m. and featuring 28 themed trees, take the Christmas City Stroll walking tour with a certified local guide, or stop in the blacksmith shop to see a Colonial Blacksmith at work.
