Richard L. Bateman

95 years of age and Allentown resident, died on January

3, 2023 at Phoebe Health Care Center, Allentown. Richard was the husband of

Iris (Gerling) Bateman who died in 2006. He was born in Allentown to the late John H. and Mildred (Heimbach) Bateman. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by sisters June Glaze, Doris Case, and brother John H. Jr. He was a graduate of Whitehall High School and Muhlenberg College. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Staff Sargent while serving with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. Richard was retired from the General Electric Company where he served as a Regional Manager in the Financial Services Unit. Prior to joining GE, he was employed by the General Acceptance Corporation, serving as a Vice President of their GAC Finance, Inc. and President of their subsidiary, General Rediscount Corporation. Richard was a member of St. John’s UCC Fullerton. He was a past Commander and life member of Fullerton Post #367 of the American Legion. He was also a life member of the Egypt VFW Post #7293 and Fullerton Fire Co. No. 1.

Services will be 11:00 am Tuesday January 17, 2022 in the Gilbert Funeral Home 444 Pershing Blvd. Whitehall, PA 18052, where his family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 am. Interment with Legion Honors will follow in Garden of Peace Cemetery, Whitehall. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions may be made to Peaceable Kingdom, Lehigh County Humane Society, or other animal shelters of your choice. Thank you very much for caring.
