Spring programs at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park

The following programs will be offered at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park clubhouse, 108 Clubhouse Road, Pine Grove.

Tree Planting Workshop: 2-4 p.m. March 19 at the Waterfall Pavilion/Dam Breast Area. Learn how to choose the right tree for the right location at your home or business. Also learn some general guidelines on planting trees to increase your success rate. Workshop is hosted by Master Gardener Kathy Townley. Free.

Spring in Your Step discovery hike: A spring nature walk will be held 10-11 a.m. March 25 at the Waterfall Road Pavilion of Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. The great engine that turns the seasons has shifted into high gear as they welcome spring by hiking the park trails.

Mentored Youth Trout Fishing Days: March 25 is the statewide Mentored Youth Trout Fishing opening day beginning at 8 a.m. Youth anglers must obtain a Mentored Youth Permit or a Voluntary Youth fishing license from the Pa. Fish & Boat Commission and be accompanie­d by a licensed adult angler to participat­e. Adult anglers, 16 years of age or older, must possess a valid Pa. fishing license and a current Trout/Salmon Permit, and be accompanie­d by a youth, less than 16 years of age, who has obtained a Mentored Youth Fishing Permit or a Voluntary Youth fishing license from the Commission. Only youth anglers with a Voluntary Youth fishing license or Mentored Youth Permit may possess a total of two trout, combined species, with a minimum length of seven-inches. Mosquitos and Ticks: Backyard Disease Carrying Pests, 6 p.m. March 29 in the Clubhouse. This session will include informatio­n on mosquito and tick species found in Schuylkill County. Also included will be informatio­n on common diseases carried by these insect pests. Methods of control performed by the Conservati­on District will be covered as well as tips for homeowners to lower mosquito and tick population­s around their home. Presented by Kyle Schutt the Insect Management Technician for the Schuylkill Conservati­on District. The program length will be about 60 minutes with time for discussion and questions.
