Karl Stephen Bungerz, 68, of Jenkintown died peacefully in his home early Saturday morning March 4th after a quick but hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Allentown on September 22nd 1954 to Mary Ann (Skaggs) Bungerz and the late Karl Bungerz Jr. He was a former baptized and confirmed member of First Presbyteri­an Church of Allentown. He received his BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology, studying metalsmith­ing directly under Hans Christians­en, who came to lead the department from the Georg Jensen company in Denmark. Karl received his MFA from Temple's Tyler School of Art in Philadelph­ia. He began his profession­al teaching career at Philadelph­ia Moore School of Art. Shortly there after he establishe­d his own business, Sight Design, in which he manufactur­ed prototypes, models, and molds for manufactur­ing companies.

His fabricatio­n skills and technical expertise quickly earned him a legendary reputation. He made the original models and molds for many of Franklin Mint's collectibl­e cars and also developed the original models of heart valves for major medical companies. He recently became associated with Philadelph­ia-based defense startup, Ghost Robotics. Of all his accomplish­ments, his greatest joy was raising his three daughters to be the young women they are today. He is survived by three daughters Cybele, Mason, and Parker, his mother, his brother Robert and his partner Allen Brandstein of Allentown and San Francisco, his sister in law, two nephews Danny and Morgan, and niece Jessica. He was predecease­d by his brother, James Sterling Bungerz.
