Margaret Anna Holzer
Margaret Anna Holzer, 97, went home to the Lord on March 3, 2023, and is now reunited with her beloved husband.
She was born in Bethlehem, PA on February 25, 1926, as the youngest of four children to Carl C. Smollinger and Theresa Mary (Maly) Smollinger, who came to the USA from Germany and Romania in 1912.
A graduate of Liberty High School's Class of 1944, Marge went on to enter the workforce.
She held employment with Bethlehem Steel, Navy Office, as well as real estate and insurance companies. She retired from Lehigh University, in 1988, as an Office Manager in the Research Office, following a twenty-one-and-a-half-year career.
Outside of work, she held many memberships: St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bethlehem, Ss. Simon and Jude Senior Group, Golden Hillers Senior Group, and Holy Family Manor Auxiliary. She also volunteered for many years with RADPRIN at Northampton Community College. Marge and Joe did a significant amount of traveling, especially after retirement, visiting all fifty states and much of Europe. While in Germany, they were able to visit where her father used to live and met with many relatives that still lived in nearby areas.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of seventy-two years, the late Joseph P. Holzer, who passed away in 2019; and two brothers: Carl and Max.
Marge will be lovingly remembered by her sister: Florence Smollinger Altemus, 99, of Florida; her daughters, Nancy A. Huntington and significant other, Thomas Jones, of South Carolina; and Joan T. Christianson and husband, Peter, of Virginia; grandchildren: John R. Huntington, III of Georgia, Ellen E. (Christianson) Fohl and husband, Brandon, of Virginia; and Jeffrey D. Christianson of New York; great-grandchildren: Wilder Lee Fohl & Willow Elizabeth Fohl; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A viewing will be held at the Connell Funeral Home, Inc., 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem, on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 9:30am until 10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00am at St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, 450 Washington Avenue, Bethlehem.
