2003: Theresa Antolick scores 18 points and two-time defending champion Central Catholic holds high-scoring Meredith Alexis to 11 points, 20 below her average, in a 49-34 win over Bishop Hoban in the PIAA Class 3A girls basketball Eastern final. Meanwhile, Marian Catholic, which just one returning starter from its 2002 state semifinali­st, reaches the Class A final with a 39-37 overtime win over Lebanon Catholic. Jill Homyak’s two free throws with 8.6 seconds left gives the Fillies their winning points, but it’s Erin O’Gurek who secures the win by slapping the potential game-tying shot away in the final seconds. 1988: After losing to Iowa State’s Tim Krieger all three previous times they met,

title. Turner (30-3-1), named the tournament’s outstandin­g wrestler, is one of three champions from the Lehigh Valley — Pitt’s Pat Santoro, a Bethlehem Catholic grad, caps a 48-0 season with a 16-11 win over Edinboro’s Sean O’Day at 142; and Easton’s Jack Cuvo (43-0) of East Stroudsbur­g University beats Minnesota’s Keith Nix 11-5 for the 118 title. 1988: Salisbury’s Lee Tedora and Freedom’s Dave Foley each win their second PIAA wrestling title. Tedora beats Hughesvill­e’s Steve Budman 8-1 for the Class 2A 132-poind crown. Foley edges North Allegheny’s Mike Norton 6-5 for the 3A 112-pound title. 1983: Powered by freshman Jack Cuvo’s state title at 98 pounds, Easton wins its second PIAA Class 3A team wrestling title in three years with 50 points to edge Cheltenham and Erie Tech (both 42.5).

1983: Unbeaten Dieruff extends its winning streak to 30 straight and rolls into the PIAA Class 3A girls basketball East semifinals with a 64-35 drubbing of Bensalem (24-2). Kelly Leibensper­ger leads the Huskies with a triple-double (15 points, 16 rebounds, 14 blocked shots) while Joyce Phillips adds 15 points.

1978: Lehigh junior Mark Lieberman caps a perfect season and joins older brother Mike as an NCAA wrestling champion with a 7-1 win over Oklahoma State’s Eric Weis in the 177-pound final.
