2007: Southern Lehigh senior Nando Perez wins his third straight District 11 Class 2A boys tennis singles title with a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Notre Dame-Green Pond’s Andy Petrosky.

2007: Central Catholic ace Shavaun Fisher strikes out 26 in a 3-2, 13-inning Lehigh Valley Conference softball loss at Bethlehem Catholic. 2002: Fifteen years after leaving, Phil Armstrong returns to Whitehall as girls basketball coach, the Zephyrs’ fourth coach in five years. Armstrong, who inherited a 3-21 team, posted a 203-53 record while winning four East Penn Conference and four District 11 titles between 1977 and 1987 at Whitehall. He also coached four years at Emmaus (91-19) and another at Parkland (8-16). Armstrong, who also coached the Northern Lehigh boys for one season, was let go after just one year (1-23) in his return to Whitehall and ended the season with a career 303-111 record in 16 years as a girls basketball coach.

2005: Phillipsbu­rg senior Justin Gaymon wins the boys 400-meter hurdles at the Penn Relays in 52.44, the top outdoor mark by a high schooler in the event this season.

1997: Southern Lehigh’s Angie Tyson pitches her fourth no-hitter of the season, blanking Northweste­rn 3-0.

1985: With the first pick of the fourth round of the NFL Draft, the Buffalo

Bills select former Dieruff star and Kutztown wide receiver Andre Reed. In 15 seasons with the Bills Reed would set franchise records for receptions (941), receiving yards (13,095) and touchdown catches (86). 1975: Allentown’s Ed Ressler Jr. sweeps two games from Sam Flanagan and wins the American Bowling Congress’ Masters tournament in Dayton, Ohio, pocketing a first-place purse of $5,650.
