LEHIGH VALLEY FLASHBACK

-

A look back at Lehigh Valley sports stories over the years from Oct. 29.

2006: Lehigh County officials reveal that revised projections show that the proposed 10,000-seat stadium for the area’s Triple-A team will cost as much as $50 million, much higher than the original $34.3 million price tag.

The earlier cost estimate was based on a 7,000-seat stadium to house a

Single-A team, and officials say additional site work, increased material costs and a tight construction schedule helped result in the increased estimate. County officials vow to find the funds without using property tax dollars.

2004: In a rare late-season battle of unbeatens,

Easton tops Liberty 21-7 at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium. Red Rover freshman Jarred Holley throws a 69-yard halfbackoption pass to John Suozzo on the game’s first play and also catches a 44-yard pass at the Liberty 1-yard line to set up another touchdown. 2004: Drew Reinhard’s 20-yard field goal with 1.7

seconds remaining gives Emmaus a 27-24 victory over Parkland, the Green Hornets’ first official win over the Trojans since 1992. Emmaus had to forfeit a win over Parkland in 1993 for use of an ineligible player.

1999: Vincente Bastidas scores his 47th and 48th goals of the season, setting a Colonial League singleseason scoring record, in Catasauqua’s 4-1 win over Moravian Academy in a District 11 playoff victory. 1994: Forty-six-year-old Chuck Roseberry, who drew

national publicity by earning a spot on the Kutztown University football roster, sees his first action in the season’s eighth game. Roseberry lines up at nose tackle for three plays in the second quarter of the Golden Bears’ 18-14 loss to Shippensburg at University Field.

1976: Wayne Schickram runs for more than 200 yards in the first half and scores three touchdowns as Tamaqua rolls up 501 rushing yards in a 46-0 drubbing of Shenandoah.
