Ruby Rose (Pilgert) Koch, 89, formerly of Macungie, died peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at The Lutheran Home at Topton, Longswamp Township, Berks County, where she was a resident for several years. Ruby was the widow of Warren “Schnick” E. Koch, who died October 11, 1990. Born in Mertztown, Ruby was a daughter of the late William A. and Carrie M. (Fegely) Pilgert. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Macungie.

Ruby was employed 30 years at Allen Organ Company, Macungie, where she worked wiring the speakers and bringing life to the grand organs. Her work was so fitting since she loved music, especially the violin and classical piano. “Clair de Lune” was a favorite piece for anyone who would like to listen and think of her. To know Ruby was to love her. Quiet, shy, and unassuming with a heart of gold and a beautiful smile. She started each new day with scripture and lived a godly life in service and devotion to her faith, family, friends and neighbors. She raised three daughters; all the best of them is her. She loved her sons-in-law, the boys she never had, and she adored her grandchildren and expanding family.

She nursed the sick, would welcome new neighbors with an amazing cake, and to be seated at her dinner table was a gift. She loved books and she loved to sing and share her beautiful voice. She marveled at the clouds, the sight of a soaring hawk, or an airplane in flight. She loved flowers and birds, especially Cardinals. The next one that visits you, think of her. Revelation 21:4

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

How Great Thou Art - her favorite hymn

“Oh Lord my God when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds thy hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder thy power throughout the universe displayed then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee how great Thou art, how great Thou art”

Ruby is survived by three daughters: Vicki E. (Koch), widow of Kenneth D. Eriksen, Macungie; Lori B. (Koch), wife of Thomas W. Wilson, Elysburg, Northumberland County; and Amy E. (Koch), wife of Daniel L. Thomas, Allentown. Other survivors include her twin sister, Lucy S. (Pilgert), wife of Richard Braun, Allen Park, MI; and two grandchildren: Mara A. (Wilson), wife of Paul B. Moore; and John T. Wilson. In addition to her husband, and parents, Ruby was predeceased by a sister, Eva B. (Pilgert) Radcliffe; and two brothers: Russel H. Pilgert, and Carl W. Pilgert.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Saint Paul's Cemetery, Mertztown.

Contributions in Ruby's memory may be considered to Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main Street, Macungie, PA 18062.
