Golden Globe nominations for 2018

- By Jake Coyle

‘Vice’ and ‘A Star is Born,’ above, received the most nominations for the Jan. 6 awards show.

NEW YORK — Adam McKay’s Dick Cheney biopic “Vice” seized control of the 76th Golden Globe Awards with a leading six nominations, narrowly edging out Bradley Cooper’s tearjerking revival “A Star Is Born,” the interracial road-trip drama “Green Book” and the period romp “The Favourite.”

“Vice” topped all contenders Thursday in nominations announced at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, including best picture, comedy and best actor nominations for Christian Bale’s performance as the former vice president. It also earned nominations for Amy Adams’ supporting role as Lynne Cheney, Sam Rockwell’s George W. Bush and both the screenplay and direction by McKay.

For even the often-quirky selections of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the strong support for “Vice” (which arrives in theaters Dec. 25) was a surprise. But it was far from a runaway win, as the press association typically spreads its awards around. Oscar frontrunners “A Star Is Born,” “Green Book” and “The Favourite” trailed close behind with five nominations each. No women were nominated for best director.

Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh will co-host the Jan. 6 ceremony, to be broadcast live on NBC. A partial list of nominees:
