The Morning Call

Henry’s historic night carries Titans

-

Derrick Henry sped and stiffarmed his way to a record-tying 99-yard touchdown run and the host Titans routed the Jaguars 30-9 on Thursday night to stay in the playoff chase.

And that was just part of an amazing night for Henry.

Henry tied Tony Dorsett’s 99-yarder on Jan. 3, 1983, for the Cowboys against the Vikings for the longest TD run in NFL history. Henry ran to his left and ran up the sideline, stiff-arming first Jaguars cornerback A.J. Bouye, then rookie linebacker Leon Jacobs twice and finally a shove to linebacker Myles Jack to finish off the TD.

Henry set a franchise record with 238 yards on just 16 carries, topping the previous mark of 228 yards set by Chris Johnson in 2009 against the Jaguars.

Henry finished with a careerhigh four TDs, tying Lorenzo White and Hall of Fame running back Earl Campbell for most rushing TDs in a single game in franchise history. Henry also became the first player in the NFL with four rushing TDs in a game since Jonas Gray of the Patriots in Week 11 in 2014.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel called Henry’s night “very impressive.”

With the rout and second win in a row, the Titans (7-6) stayed in AFC playoff contention with their fourth straight victory over the Jaguars.

Foster’s ex-girlfriend opens up: Reuben Foster’s ex-girlfriend tells ABC’s “Good Morning America” that he slapped her and pushed her during an incident in Tampa, Fla., that led to his arrest for domestic violence.

Elissa Ennis said in the interview televised Thursday that Foster abused her three times, most recently last month in Tampa. Foster, 24, was charged with one count of first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence.

The 49ers released Foster after the incident, and the Redskins claimed the second-year linebacker off waivers. Foster was put on the NFL’s Commissioner Exempt list, which means he cannot play or practice.

Ennis said when the Redskins signed Foster she was shocked and thought, “I can’t believe somebody picked him up” so soon.

Giants’ Collins sidelined: The Giants placed two-time Pro Bowl safety Landon Collins on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

Collins was hurt Sunday against the Bears and will need surgery to repair a partially torn labrum.

The Giants signed defensive back Kenny Ladler off their practice squad to fill the roster spot. He had six special teams tackles with the Redskins before being released on Nov. 6.

Collins was the Giants’ leading tackler in each of his first three seasons. He led the team this year with 96 tackles.

Extra points: With WR Sammy Watkins limited in practice with a nagging foot injury, the Chiefs reportedly hosted former Bills WR Kelvin Benjamin. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported Benjamin’s visit . ... The Panthers’ Julius Peppers, the Broncos’ Von Miller and the Redskins’ Vernon Davis are among the 32 nominees announced for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award.
