Lehigh Valley students learn about ‘cool’ manufacturing
Students from Lower Macungie Middle School, in conjunction with Mack Trucks, received an Outstanding Overall Program award during a ceremony Tuesday honoring Lehigh Valley schools and employers in the sixth annual “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” event at ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks.
More than 900 people attended the ceremony that recognized students in Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties who visited area businesses to learn about manufacturing as a potential career and captured videos during their tours. The What’s So Cool About Manufacturing program, created by the Manufacturers Resource Center and partners eMediaWorks, Sahl Communications and EmpowerStar Marketing, received 123,228 votes over a three-day voting period.
The video with the most votes received the Viewers Choice Award. The videos were also reviewed by a panel of judges for awards in 10 other categories, including Outstanding Brand Placement and Outstanding Creativity.

■ Outstanding Videography: Nazareth Area Middle School, HindlePower
■ Viewer’s Choice: Springhouse Middle School, Lutron Electronics
■ Outstanding Outreach Plan: Southern Lehigh Middle School, IQE
■ Outstanding Career Pathway (tie): Lawrence B. Morris School, Heritage Sign & Display; and Nitschmann Middle School, Stanley Black & Decker
■ Outstanding Brand Placement: Raub Middle School, Crayola
■ Sweet Manufacturing Cupcake Award Winner: Career Institute of Technology, CIT
