Alternative rock hitmakers to headline at Musikfest
Incubus to perform on Steel Stage on Aug. 7; tickets go on sale Tuesday
One of the most popular alternative rock bands of the 2000s will headline the main Steel Stage at Musikfest, it was announced Thursday.
Incubus, which 1997 to 2009 sold 7 million copies of its six albums and is best known for its songs “Drive,” “Make Yourself” and “Megalomaniac,” will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 7.
Tickets, at $59-$79, go on sale to ArtsQuest members at 10 a.m. Tuesday and to the public at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, at www.musikfest.org and 610-332-3378.
The concert is the sixth of 10 headline shows to be announced for the 36th annual Musikfest, which runs Aug. 2-11 in downtown Bethlehem and on the SteelStacks campus on the city’s South Side.
From 1997 to 2009, Incubus sold 7 million copies of its six albums, with both 1999’s “Make Yourself” and 2001’s “Morning View” selling double platinum. The latter reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Albums chart, as did its next disc, 2004’s platinum “A Crow Left of the Murder ...”
“Make Yourself” produced three Top 3 Alternative hits: “Pardon Me,” “Stellar” and the No. 1 “Drive,” which also crossed over to Top 10 on the overall chart. “Megalomaniac” from “A Crow Left of the Murder ...” also topped the Alternative chart.
The band finally topped the overall Albums chart with 2006’s “Light Grenades” — its only No. 1 disc. That album produced two No. 1 Alternative hits: “Anna-Molly” and “Love Hurts.” In all, Incubus has had 14 Top 10 Alternative hits.
Its 2011 album “If Not Now, When?” peaked at No. 2, and is most recent disc, “8,” released in 2017, at No. 4. Its most recent hit was the No. 4 Alternative song “Nimble Bastard.”
Incubus was the first act to play Sands Bethlehem Event Center when it drew a nearsellout crowd of almost 3,500 in 2012. It returned in 2015 and again played to a near-sellout audience.
Previously announced headline shows for Musikfest are The Chainsmokers on Aug. 2, Steve Miller Band with Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives on Aug. 3, Lady Antebellum on Aug. 4, Train & Goo Goo Dolls on Aug. 6 and Brad Paisley Aug. 11.
Tickets remain available for all those shows.
