At least 1 hurt in deck collapse
One person was injured when a deck collapsed Thursday afternoon in Northampton County.
The collapse was reported at 12:30 p.m. in the rear of a residence in the 2500 block of Gillian Lane, Forks Township, according to the Northampton County Communication Center.
Identifying herself only as a visitor at the home of the collapse, a woman said the property owner had construction workers working on the deck.
She said she heard a loud noise and rushed out to see the deck collapsed. She saw one of the construction workers trying to get up and the other worker lying down next to the fallen deck.
Neighbor Jeannine Keane, whose backyard faces the rear of the home where the deck collapsed, said she arrived home after the collapse.
“I did see firefighters, paramedics and neighbors over there helping one of the two men who’d been working on the deck,” Keane said.
Neighbor Raji Kaur recorded video of one of the injured being brought on a stretcher around to the front of the house and placed into an ambulance. Kaur became aware of the collapse after looking out of her window and seeing firetrucks and ambulances.
“I saw the firefighters with tools they used to hold up part of the deck,” Kaur said. “It looked like one of the two workers had his foot pinned under the deck because it was bandaged when they brought him out on the stretcher. And he was in a neck brace.
“The other worker was able to walk, though he seemed to be limping,” she said.
