Woman charged in fatal 2017 crash
State police charged a woman in a 2017 fatal crash in Lower Mount Bethel Township that claimed the life of a 55-year-old man as he tried to cross Route 611.
Tammy A. Tartaglia, 55, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, was charged Thursday with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, reckless endangering and various traffic summaries.
Tartaglia is free on $100,000 unsecured bail.
State police say the crash occurred around 10:20 a.m. Sept. 28, 2017. A trooper interviewed Tartaglia, who said Etienne T. Longa of Lodi, New Jersey, had run across the road in front of her car and she was “unable to avoid hitting him.”
Longa had parked his tractor-trailer on the shoulder of the road. As Longa stepped out of his truck, he was hit by Tartaglia’s car, according to court records.
At the time of the crash, police say Tartaglia was traveling between 50 and 59 mph. She was driving in an “unsafe manner for the conditions,” the records state.

was charged following a grand jury investigation. According to Martin:
On the morning of Dec. 6, 2007, Reader was the sole caregiver of Angelina Tomas. The infant suffered a traumatic brain injury that resulted in developmental delays, cognitive and learning impairments, physical disabilities and a seizure disorder, prosecutors say.
The seizure disorder led to Tomas’ death in 2015, Martin said. The injury occurred in Allentown.
The grand jury’s findings were sealed by Lehigh County Judge Maria L. Dantos so no further information about the incident can be released, Martin said in a statement.
Reader was taken into custody without incident and was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, Martin said.
He said his office plans to file a motion to bypass a preliminary hearing in the case, a move that will send the charges directly to county court.
