Mount Airy Casino Resort announces record giving
Mount Airy Casino Resort’s owner and managing trustee, Lisa DeNaples recently hosted a luncheon at the resort’s new event center in celebration of Monroe County area nonprofits receiving nearly $230,000 to support local community initiatives in 2019 from the casino resort’s charitable arm, The Mount Airy Foundation. Over the past three years the foundation, has awarded nearly $400,000 to area nonprofits that support Monroe County residents’ quality of life.
This year’s most significant grant, $40,000, will be awarded to the Salvation Army of East Stroudsburg, an organization helping residents in need of food, safe shelter and spiritual support for 120 years.
Northampton Community College of Monroe County received $25,000 to support its Transforming Lives Campaign, through the creation of the inaugural Mount Airy Foundation Endowed Scholarship. The fund will support scholarships for residents who meet low-income requirements and wish to enter NCC’s hospitality or culinary arts program.
Monroe County Meals on Wheels was also selected and the foundation is proud to support the organization’s efforts to help homebound seniors with age-related challenges whose annual incomes are below $20,000 receive nutritious meals.
Other donations include $20,000 to support the Pocono Center for the Art’s mission to make cultural activities affordable for all citizens of Monroe County. The nonprofit, established last year, with a mission to make the Poconos a nationally recognized destination for innovative visual and performing arts, will now be able to fully fund its 2019 Broadway Series.
Other recipients include: Pocono Family YMCA, $25,000; Pocono Mountains United Way, $25,000; Monroe County Habitat for Humanity, $20,000; Boy Scouts of America, Monroe County, $17,000; AllOne Charities, $10,000; Make A Wish of Greater PA & WV Inc., $8,000; Pocono Health Foundation, $750; AWSOM, $500; and East Stroudsburg Lodge 319, $500.
