5 things to know about Bangor

-

1. The 100th meeting with Pen Argyl on Oct. 26 is already generating a lot of community interest. Tickets for the banquet at the Wind Creek Event Center (formerly the Sands Event Center) two nights before the game are selling well. Reduzzi said plans are being made so the schedule will minimize distractions leading into the game.

2. The Bangor football golf fundraiser had 144 participants.

3. After spending a year in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, Reduzzi believes the coaches in the Colonial League are underrated in the sense EPC coaches have the luxury of dealing with more kids. “At Liberty, if someone got hurt I could call out a name and someone else would go in. If someone gets hurt in this league, coaches have to be prepared because you’re moving three kids and you have to work so much harder at practice to do that. In the EPC, coaches can do more X-and-O but we’re forced to do more with the kids. We’re developing kids more than developing a scheme.”

4. With the 2020 Colonial League-Schuylkill merger, Bangor will pick up games with Blue Mountain, Lehighton and Pottsville while still playing Wilson, Saucon Valley, Northwestern and Pen Argyl. There is still a game to fill. “We’ve played some of those people in the playoffs and we’ve had great games with them,” Reduzzi said. “It’s very good football, very intense.”

5. Conor Gum, who played for Reduzzi at Pen Argyl and then attended Lehigh University, is a member of the coaching staff. Conor’s father, Jimmy, was a beloved figure at both Pen Argyl and Lehigh. He died in 2006 at the age of 43 from ALS.
