Sam’s the man
The fiery Gilmore is known for being vocal with his players but he doesn’t have to get after McCloskey.
“He’s a great leader,” Gilmore said. “What I like about him is he works really, really hard all of the time. When Sam falls short in even the slightest of ways, Sam is his own biggest critic. He’s very self-aware. Having that self-awareness allows him to improve on anything.
“He’ll never fall short in a major way, but there’s always something you can do better and those subtle points of football are the areas that Sam worries about.”
Gilmore said that McCloskey is a popular but not because he is loud.
“He doesn’t have an ego,” Gilmore said. “He’s popular because of how he conducts himself. He sets an example … the right example.”
