The Morning Call - - SPORTS - By Stephen Miller

After a week of crossover games to start the 2019 high school football season, the EPC shifts into division play for most teams this week.

One of the season’s three Bethlehem battles leads the Lehigh Valley’s Week 2 slate.

EPC South Bethlehem Catholic at Freedom

Freedom surged to a 21-point lead when these teams met in Week 2 last season, pulling away to a 37-20 win. Bethlehem Catholic’s inexperienced offensive line will need to play well to slow a Freedom defensive front led by Kaden Moore and Jalen Stewart.

Nazareth at Emmaus

Nazareth had no trouble dispatching Pocono Mountain East in its season opener. This will be the Blue Eagles’ first chance to show they’re the EPC South contender several opposing coaches said they were during the preseason.

EPC North Pocono Mountain West at East Stroudsburg South

A matchup of two EPC North title contenders and two quality running backs as Christian Arrington, who ran for 209 yards and 3 TDs vs. Whitehall, goes against Kaleb Monaco, who rushed for 1,754 yards last year and opened up with 127 on 16 carries in a loss to Easton.

Colonial League Southern Lehigh at Palmerton

Both the Spartans and Blue Bombers are coming off impressive openingnight wins. This one was supposed to be at Southern Lehigh, but the field issues at the home stadium have shifted it to Carbon County.
