The Harpers announced the baby’s arrival Monday in an Instagram post. Harper flew Wednesday night from Boston to Las Vegas to be with his wife as she gave birth to the couple’s first child. The baby was born on Thursday.

The Phillies placed Harper on the paternity list on Friday before they dropped two of three in Miami to the last-place Marlins. Harper was to join the Phillies on Monday when they opened a three-game series at home against the Pirates.

The Harpers are both from Las Vegas and Kayla played college soccer at Ohio State and BYU. They were married in December 2016. They announced in April, shortly after Harper’s first game with the Phillies, that they were expecting a baby boy.
