Rams agree to ex­ten­sion with Goff

Quar­ter­back Jared Goff has agreed to a four-year con­tract ex­ten­sion with the Rams through the 2024 sea­son.

The Rams con­firmed the agree­ment Tues­day night. The team didn't dis­close con­tract terms.

Goff is beginning his fourth year with the Rams, who made him the No. 1 over­all pick in the 2016 draft. Af­ter a rocky rookie sea­son, Goff has be­come a two-time Pro Bowl selec­tion un­der coach Sean McVay over the past two years.

Goff has passed for 8,492 yards with 60 touch­downs and 19 in­ter­cep­tions in 31 reg­u­lar-sea­son games as McVay's starter. He also led the Rams to two play­off vic­to­ries be­fore the Su­per Bowl, where he strug­gled in a 19-for-38 per­for­mance for 229 yards in the Rams' 13-3 loss to the Pa­tri­ots.

El­liott ‘close’ to deal: Ezekiel El­liott is back in Texas and ready to play foot­ball.

The Cow­boys run­ning back ar­rived at DFW Air­port from Mex­ico on Tues­day af­ter­noon with re­ports swirling that he and the team are close to agree­ing on a multi-year con­tract.

El­liott's agent Rocky Arce­neaux, who was trav­el­ing with him, said a deal is “close.”

El­liott was asked is he ex­pects to play on Sunday when the Cow­boys open the sea­son against the Gi­ants at AT&T Sta­dium.

“If I have a deal,” he said.

Later, be­tween sign­ing au­to­graphs and pos­ing for self­ies with fans, El­liott was asked if he was ready to play.

“I've been ready,” he said. He ig­nored re­peated re­quests to re­spond to Cow­boys owner Jerry Jones' “Zeke who?” quip from three weeks ago.

Ear­lier in the day, the Cow­boys agreed with right tackle La'el Collins on a new con­tract, the sec­ond ex­ten­sion to get set­tled dur­ing El­liott's hold­out. The deal is for $50 mil­lion over five years with $35 mil­lion guar­an­teed.

Ex­tra points: The Charg­ers ex­tended Pro Bowl C Mike Pouncey's con­tract through the 2020 sea­son. Pouncey was in the fi­nal sea­son of a two-year, $15 mil­lion con­tract. The ex­ten­sion will be worth $9 mil­lion next sea­son . ... The Ben­gals signed RB Gio­vani Bernard to a two-year con­tract ex­ten­sion through the 2021 sea­son. He could have be­come a free agent af­ter this sea­son. Bernard, a sec­ond-round draft pick in 2013, has been used to com­ple­ment Joe Mixon. Last sea­son, he car­ried 56 times for 211 yards and three touch­downs . ... Bears TE Trey Bur­ton was lim­ited again in prac­tice in the fi­nal tuneup for the opener against the Pack­ers on Thurs­day night at Soldier Field. Coach Matt Nagy said it will be a “game-time de­ci­sion” whether Bur­ton will play af­ter he suf­fered a mi­nor groin strain last week . ... The Jets have pro­moted long­time ex­ec­u­tive Hymie El­hai to team pres­i­dent. El­hai is in his 20th year with the fran­chise and spent the last five as the Jets' se­nior vice pres­i­dent of business af­fairs and gen­eral coun­sel. He takes over for Neil Glat, who stepped down last Fri­day and will be a se­nior ad­viser with the team . ... The Lions re­leased WR Andy Jones from in­jured re­serve. Jones played in eight games last sea­son had 11 catches for 80 yards and a touch­down for the Lions.
