The Morning Call

We must stand up for our Second Amendment rights

“Guns, guns, guns, we love guns!”

You may have heard our tagline before on the radio. It came about from a normal conversation I had when I introduced our new advertising expert to our gun store and indoor shooting range. It’s straight from the heart, nothing fake or made up.

I, and the employees that work for me, all live it.

We are part of what some call

“the gun culture.”

We just call ourselves Americans

… living our dream with our God-given right to bear arms.

I tell you this because last year I decided to hold our first Second Amendment Rally when I heard about young Americans in another state wanting to give away their Second Amendment rights. This concerned me deeply. Something is wrong and someone needs to stand up and do something.

My son had just turned 18, and I can’t imagine a circumstance where his mother or I would find this normal. Something has to be done for his generation and also the next. I’ve watched it for a long time and I believe the public schools, politicians and liberal media pushing anti-gun propaganda has brought this to a head.

The media will tell you that most people want more gun laws and that the gun laws are too lax. Theirs is a one-sided argument that crushes all opposition because they control the platform. Their lies get accepted as fact, as with all other agendas they promote — from global warming to socialism and illegal immigration. The silent majority on the other side never gets heard, and people only have one voice to listen to, like the old Pravda of the Soviet Union.

Talking to people, I don’t find that to be the case at all. Most people do not want to lose their rights. Polls can be skewed to produce whatever result you are looking for. The polls told us that Hillary Clinton was going to win, and we know that not to be true.

You have no way to fight back when they insult your intelligence and look down on you, mocking you as clinging to “God and guns.”

With the recent shootings in Allentown I noticed this even more. The cry goes out against the gun, as if the gun

perpetrated the crime. No real mention of the criminal, stronger prosecution, harsher penalties or better parenting.

Imagine if every car accident death resulted in media and politicians’ outcries against cars … they would be laughed at. Obviously, the person to blame is the criminal who perpetrated the attack. Let’s hear an outcry against criminals and for tougher sentencing coming from the cities and the mayor’s office. Sadly, we hear crickets in that regards because it doesn’t play to their base or their political agenda.

It’s hard to be tough on crime when you tell people the system is “unfair” and needs to be reformed. You can’t have it both ways. So, instead, why not blame the gun as the scapegoat?

Perhaps it’s the city run by Democrats? I live in a rural area of the Lehigh Valley where everyone has lots of guns and gun crime is almost nonexistent. Gun safety is observed and kids grow up respecting and loving their Second Amendment right. Many people I know conceal carry their firearm, and I don’t know one person who has been shot while doing so. No one is asking for more gun laws.

Instead of teaching gun safety in schools and in the cities, we are supposed to believe more gun laws will protect people from criminals. It flies in the face of all reason. We have, by some estimates, thousands of gun laws on the books and still guns are used in crimes every day. Creating more gun laws only makes it harder for law-abiding people to protect themselves from the criminal element, which should be everyone’s goal. The criminal doesn’t follow the law by their very definition.

Why not start by teaching our kids how to not be a victim and how to defend themselves? Gun safety, and instruction in the U.S. Constitution, go a long way to making a responsible citizen, confident in their freedoms.

If they can attack your constitutional right to own firearms, imagine what else they can come after. The right to free speech, the right to assemble, the right to freedom of religious worship? Perhaps in the name of safety? All of these are protected by your Second Amendment “right to bear arms.”

These are our birthrights as Americans. What other rights are you willing to give up for false or temporary safety?
