ESU stuns Division I Wagner

NEW YORK — Quarterbac­k Jake Cirillo, an East Stroudsbur­g South High School grad, passed for 138 yards and rushed for a game-high 90 yards and Division II-member East Stroudsbur­g defeated Division I FCS-member Wagner 24-14 on Saturday.

ESU scored 21 consecutiv­e points in the first and second quarters and the Warriors (1-0) led 21-7 at halftime.

Trailing 21-14 in the fourth quarter, Wagner drove to the ESU 24 but was backed up by a 3-yard loss on a run followed by a sack, an incomplete pass and a penalty. The Seahawks punted and ESU took six minutes off the clock with a 10-play, 60-yard drive that resulted in a 45-yard field goal by Jordan Walters. Wagner took possession with 1:05 remaining and did not gain a first down.

Wagner’s Christian Alexander-Stevens completed 20 of 34 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown but was sacked four times. Dymitri McKenzie carried 16 times for 87 yards and a touchdown for the Seahawks (0-2).

Wagner lost just 24-21 to Connecticu­t in its opener a week ago.

Moravian falls to King’s: Moravian rallied from an early 14-0 deficit to tie the game in the third quarter before falling to host King’s College, 23-20, in non-conference action Saturday night.

Senior running back Roberto Diaz (Freedom) led the Greyhounds with 87 yards on 15 carries and a one-yard touchdown run.

Eddie Olsen (Easton) caught five passes for 81 yards and a TD while Liberty grad Nick Petros had five receptions for 42 yards and one carry for seven yards.

Sophomore linebacker Noah Breidinger (Emmaus) had 11 tackles and junior LB Tanner Barr (Pen Argyl) added nine for Moravian.
