GREEK FOOD FESTIVAL
Fill up on gyros, moussaka, baklava and other Greek specialties at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral’s Greek Food Festival next weekend.
The bi-annual event, which begins Sept. 19 and wraps up Sept. 22, features a la carte items such as spanakopita and stuffed grape leaves, and desserts such as loukoumades (honey puffs) and bougatsa (creamy custard in fillo pastry).
Platter highlights include chicken or pork souvlaki, Greek or Vegan stuffed peppers, pastitsio (layers of penne pasta and Greekstyle chopped beef with Bechamel sauce) and Athenian chicken (boneless and skinless baked chicken breast filled with a blend of spinach, feta cream sauce and herbs and topped with light gravy). Most platters include rice or baked orzo, green beans, salad and a dinner roll.
Other highlights include church tours, traditional Greek dancing and music.
Hours are noon to 9 p.m. Sept. 19, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 20 and 21 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 22. Admission is free. The church is at 1607 W. Union Blvd., Bethlehem. Info: 610-867-1327 or stnicholas.org.
