Missing teen found dead near park, police say
A 16-year-old girl reported missing was found dead near a park Wednesday, Upper Perk police said, adding there is no threat to the community.
Maryanne Dyer of Pennsburg had been reported missing by her family early Wednesday and her body was found that same day, police said in a Facebook post. Dyer was found near a wooded park area on 11th Street in Upper Hanover Township, police say.
“There is an open investigation and we cannot release any further information at this time,” police said. Authorities could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday about the death investigation.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s office said an autopsy would be completed Thursday.
According to the Town and Country newspaper, Dyer was last seen walking near the Upper Perkiomen High School.
Police say Dyer had talked to her mother on her cellphone about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and said she was going for a walk before coming home. Surveillance cameras at the girl’s residence confirmed that she never made it home. Her body was found around 3 p.m. Wednesday, the newspaper reported.
The newspaper states an unidentified emergency responder described the teen’s death as “non suspicious.”
