How to join Friday’s global climate strike

The Morning Call - - TOWN SQUARE -

Greta Thunberg, student climate activist from Sweden, traveled to New York for the U.N. Climate Action Summit on a solar-powered ship to rally support for the global climate strike on Sept. 20. Students in the Lehigh Valley and all over the world will walk out that day, and there’s a climate strike at 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem Library.

Climate change is upon us, and those responsible for setting climate-friendly policy need to start listening. Donald Trump and company are dismantling federal laws that protect our environment.

Gov. Tom Wolf and the legislature have raided several environmental funds to pay for “more important” budget items. President Bolsonaro of Brazil has encouraged deforestation of the Amazon, and it is on fire. Fires are raging in Siberia. Storms, floods and droughts are becoming more and more severe.

Please make a heroic effort to join the world for the climate strike. If you can’t make it to an organized strike (www.globalclimatestrike.net), walk out on your own. Think of it as a fire drill. Our world is burning.
