Lib­erty’s new coach a fa­mil­iar name

Bran­don Hall is re­turn­ing to the Bethlehem wrestling scene.

This time he will be in charge at Lib­erty af­ter be­ing ap­proved at Mon­day night’s Bethlehem Area School District board meet­ing.

Hall re­places Jody Karam, the win­ningest coach in Hur­ri­canes his­tory. Karam, 54, stepped down this sum­mer af­ter a 26-year run.

Karam’s fi­nal sea­son in­cluded the pro­gram’s first EPC ti­tle and a dual-meet win over Bethlehem Catholic. He was 362-150-1 at Lib­erty, 409-161-3 over­all.

Hall was 112-78 in an eightyear run with Free­dom, con­clud­ing with a 13-8 record in 2017-18. He will be Lib­erty’s fifth head coach in pro­gram his­tory.

Ex­pected re­turn­ing wrestlers for Hall in­clude ju­nior Connor Werner (37-14 ca­reer record), se­nior Ja­son Rezac (48-30), sopho­more Chris­tian Reid (5-10), se­nior Ni­azi An­sar (10-15), se­nior Kevin Hennessy (59-22) and sopho­more Javien Deleon (4-1).

Lib­erty opens its 2019-20 sea­son on Satur­day, Dec. 7, at Boy­er­town’s Brian Bealer Memo­rial Bear Du­als with Soud­er­ton, Coun­cil Rock North, Dal­las, Gar­net Val­ley, Owen J. Roberts, In­ter­boro, Gov­er­nor Mif­flin and Harry S. Tru­man.

Lib­erty’s first dual is Wed­nes­day, Dec. 11, against Bethlehem Catholic.

The Hur­ri­canes also host the an­nual Bethlehem Hol­i­day Wrestling Clas­sic the last week­end in De­cem­ber.

Lib­erty vis­its Free­dom on Wed­nes­day, Jan. 22, in an EPC divisional ri­valry matchup.
