Lo­cals shine on de­fen­sive side

With Week 4 of the col­lege foot­ball sea­son in the books, it’s time to take a look at how some of the play­ers from the Le­high Val­ley have fared this sea­son.

De­fend­ers had the bet­ter of the play among the lo­cal stars this past week.

Foot­ball Cham­pi­onship Sub­di­vi­sion (FCS)

NEW HAMP­SHIRE — LB Cameron Brusko (Lib­erty) recorded eight to­tal tack­les — four solo stops — in last week’s 24-21 win over Rhode Is­land. For the sea­son, Brusko has posted 18 solo tack­les and 25 to­tal stops, along with three tack­les for a loss.

TOW­SON — RB Shane Simp­son (Eas­ton) did not play in Satur­day’s wild 52-45 over­time loss to Vil­lanova. He man­aged just one carry for mi­nus-1 yard in a Sept. 14 win over Maine.

For the sea­son, Simp­son has 22 car­ries for 162 yards and two touch­downs. He also has five catches for 62 yards and one re­ceiv­ing touch­down.

LAFAYETTE — DB Tre Jor­dan (Notre Dame GP) recorded one as­sist and one to­tal tackle in Satur­day’s 36-7 loss to Al­bany. Jor­dan has posted six to­tal tack­les and one as­sist in two games so far this sea­son.

Re­ceiver Julian Spigner (Beth­le­hem Catholic) did not record any stats in

Satur­day’s loss. For the sea­son, Spigner has hauled in nine passes for 129 yards and a pair of touch­downs.

DUQUESNE — LB Ja­han Worth (Park­land) played but did not record any stats in Satur­day’s game against Day­ton. Worth has three to­tal tack­les in three games in 2019.

HAR­VARD — WR Joe Young (Free­dom) recorded the first catch of his col­le­giate ca­reer Satur­day — a 9-yard gain — in the Crim­son’s 31-23 loss to San Diego.

STONY BROOK —LB EJ Fin­eran (Beth­le­hem Catholic) did not play in Satur­day’s 45-10 win over Ford­ham. For the sea­son, Fin­eran has four tack­les.

DELAWARE — LB Drew Nick­les (Pal­isades) recorded two tack­les in last week’s 28-27 vic­tory over Penn. Nick­les has racked up 18 to­tal tack­les, nine solo stops and one in­ter­cep­tion in four games.

TEXAS STATE — DB Alvin Pacheco (Cen­tral Catholic) played but did not record any stats in last week’s con­test against Ge­or­gia State. Pacheco has three tack­les this sea­son.

Foot­ball Bowl Sub­di­vi­sion (FBS)

PENN STATE — WR Ja­han Dot­son (Nazareth) had the week off as the Nit­tany Lions pre­pare to face Big Ten ri­val Mary­land on Fri­day. Dot­son made two catches for 21 yards in a vic­tory over Pittsburgh two weeks ago. Dot­son has seven catches for 143 yards and two scores this sea­son.

OL Dal­ton Dad­dona (Beth­le­hem Catholic) has not played this sea­son, nor have Ks An­thony DaSilva (Beth­le­hem Catholic) and Car­son Lan­dis (Em­maus). WR Colton Maxwell (Northamp­ton) played in the opener against Idaho but has not recorded any stats this sea­son. OL C.J. Thorpe (Cen­tral Catholic) saw game ac­tion against Idaho, Buf­falo and Pitt this sea­son.

TEM­PLE — TE Kenny Ye­boah (Park­land) caught one pass for 12 yards Satur­day in the Owls’ 38-22 loss to Buf­falo. Ye­boah has five catches for 56 yards and one touch­downs in 2019.

RUT­GERS — LB Jaohne Dug­gan (Lib­erty) posted three to­tal tack­les in Satur­day’s loss to Bos­ton Col­lege. Dug­gan has one solo stop and five to­tal tack­les for the Scar­let Knights this sea­son.

VIR­GINIA — FS De’Vante Cross (Park­land) recorded one to­tal tackle in Satur­day’s win over Old Do­min­ion. Cross has posted seven solo tack­les, 18 to­tal stops and one tackle for a loss in the Cava­liers’ first four games.

RICH­MOND — LB Tris­tan Wheeler (Free­dom) has posted three solo stops and 16 to­tal tack­les for the Spi­ders in 2019.
