Locals shine on defensive side
With Week 4 of the college football season in the books, it’s time to take a look at how some of the players from the Lehigh Valley have fared this season.
Defenders had the better of the play among the local stars this past week.
Football Championship Subdivision (FCS)
NEW HAMPSHIRE — LB Cameron Brusko (Liberty) recorded eight total tackles — four solo stops — in last week’s 24-21 win over Rhode Island. For the season, Brusko has posted 18 solo tackles and 25 total stops, along with three tackles for a loss.
TOWSON — RB Shane Simpson (Easton) did not play in Saturday’s wild 52-45 overtime loss to Villanova. He managed just one carry for minus-1 yard in a Sept. 14 win over Maine.
For the season, Simpson has 22 carries for 162 yards and two touchdowns. He also has five catches for 62 yards and one receiving touchdown.
LAFAYETTE — DB Tre Jordan (Notre Dame GP) recorded one assist and one total tackle in Saturday’s 36-7 loss to Albany. Jordan has posted six total tackles and one assist in two games so far this season.
Receiver Julian Spigner (Bethlehem Catholic) did not record any stats in
Saturday’s loss. For the season, Spigner has hauled in nine passes for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
DUQUESNE — LB Jahan Worth (Parkland) played but did not record any stats in Saturday’s game against Dayton. Worth has three total tackles in three games in 2019.
HARVARD — WR Joe Young (Freedom) recorded the first catch of his collegiate career Saturday — a 9-yard gain — in the Crimson’s 31-23 loss to San Diego.
STONY BROOK —LB EJ Fineran (Bethlehem Catholic) did not play in Saturday’s 45-10 win over Fordham. For the season, Fineran has four tackles.
DELAWARE — LB Drew Nickles (Palisades) recorded two tackles in last week’s 28-27 victory over Penn. Nickles has racked up 18 total tackles, nine solo stops and one interception in four games.
TEXAS STATE — DB Alvin Pacheco (Central Catholic) played but did not record any stats in last week’s contest against Georgia State. Pacheco has three tackles this season.
Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS)
PENN STATE — WR Jahan Dotson (Nazareth) had the week off as the Nittany Lions prepare to face Big Ten rival Maryland on Friday. Dotson made two catches for 21 yards in a victory over Pittsburgh two weeks ago. Dotson has seven catches for 143 yards and two scores this season.
OL Dalton Daddona (Bethlehem Catholic) has not played this season, nor have Ks Anthony DaSilva (Bethlehem Catholic) and Carson Landis (Emmaus). WR Colton Maxwell (Northampton) played in the opener against Idaho but has not recorded any stats this season. OL C.J. Thorpe (Central Catholic) saw game action against Idaho, Buffalo and Pitt this season.
TEMPLE — TE Kenny Yeboah (Parkland) caught one pass for 12 yards Saturday in the Owls’ 38-22 loss to Buffalo. Yeboah has five catches for 56 yards and one touchdowns in 2019.
RUTGERS — LB Jaohne Duggan (Liberty) posted three total tackles in Saturday’s loss to Boston College. Duggan has one solo stop and five total tackles for the Scarlet Knights this season.
VIRGINIA — FS De’Vante Cross (Parkland) recorded one total tackle in Saturday’s win over Old Dominion. Cross has posted seven solo tackles, 18 total stops and one tackle for a loss in the Cavaliers’ first four games.
RICHMOND — LB Tristan Wheeler (Freedom) has posted three solo stops and 16 total tackles for the Spiders in 2019.
