Nearly $70K raised for man shot, paralyzed at gun range
Darin McMahon will need to learn a new way of life, as an accidental shooting at the Stroudsburg gun range he attended weeks ago likely will leave him paralyzed from the neck down, according to an online fundraiser page started by a family member.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe page has collected nearly $70,000 in donations for the McMahon family, which includes his wife, Tiffany, and two young children.
“There are still many questions and uncertainties about what lies ahead,” the page’s author, Kathy Lynn Haring McMahon, wrote. “However, the financial burden of the road ahead should be one less worry.”
Stroud Area Regional police say McMahon, 46, was shot in the neck while participating in a training drill at Threat Assessment & Tactical Solutions Group, a shooting range in Stroudsburg, on Sept. 15. No one else was injured in what appeared to be an accident, police said.
Police Chief Jennifer Lyon said Tuesday that the investigation is still active.
McMahon is a businessman in the Delmarva region of Delaware, having founded Activ Pest Solutions, a pest control company, in 2000, according to a Facebook post from the company.
Rockwell Tactical Group, which rented the Stroudsburg facility for the shooting class McMahon took, issued a statement on its website saying it would not add any more classes to its schedule for the time being.
“Everyone at RTG sends our thoughts and prayers, hoping for a speedy recovery,” the statement reads.
McMahon is recovering at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, according to the GoFundMe page. He may not return home to Delaware for several months, Haring McMahon wrote.
Nearly 550 people have made donations to the page as of Tuesday afternoon.
