Enjoy an afternoon of music and community

- — Craig Larimer

Who can pass up a party on the porch?

Enjoy an afternoon of music and community at Easton’s second College Hill PorchFest 2-6 p.m., Sunday. The event is located in the neighborhoods of Lafayette College, and is presented by College Hill Neighborhood Association and the Village on College Hill.

This program will feature more than 40 performances by solo musicians and combos playing on 23 porches located in the “flats” of Easton’s College Hill.

All musicians and groups — professionals, amateurs and everything in between — will volunteer to perform at designated times and locations. Guests can stroll from porch-to-porch with blankets or folding chairs to sit, stand, sway and enjoy a wide range of musical styles, including drum circle, classical, jazz, bagpipes, bluegrass, folk and electronica.

The event will reach a crescendo with the Second Line Parade at 6:15 p.m., led by the Big Easy Easton Brass. All are invited to strut and dance along with the band, and a community potluck picnic will follow at College Hill Presbyterian Church, 501 Broadhead Street, Easton.

Rain date for the event is Oct. 6. PorchFest was founded in Ithaca, New York in 2007 and has since grown to be a nationwide, community building activity. Some 115 PorchFests have sprung up in other walkable neighborhoods all over the country.
