‘Stay out of my retirement income’

The Morning Call - - TOWN SQUARE -

Rep. Frank Ryan’s current tax proposal is not very fair to all (“Your View by State Rep. Frank Ryan: Here’s my plan to eliminate school property taxes in Pennsylvania,” The Morning Call, Sept. 26). I’m a retiree and living on a fixed income. I own a house and have been paying for our schools since the end of my tour of duty when I purchased my first house.

I have always felt this property tax was unfair since I believe everyone should help pay their fair share for the high cost of education whether they own property or not. Now your proposal is once again singling me, the retiree property owner, out by trying to tax my retirement income and giving breaks to others who should also be paying their fair share.

This is why elderly people are losing homes. They simply can’t afford to keep paying their school tax and still buy needed medications and essentials.

The homeowners in Pennsylvania need real reform, not just a way to get more money from the elderly. Rep. Ryan’s proposal is not fair and should not be implemented.

Stay out of my retirement income that I alone have worked for all my life.
