Penn State police warn students of unknown men harassing women

Penn State University and State College police are jointly investigating reports of unknown men harassing women on and off campus over the last week.

The incidents seem to have some students on edge, WJACTV is reporting.

According to investigators, police are seeking the public’s help in verifying the reports they received about the harassment. In some of the reports, unknown men grabbed women by the arm while trying to speak to them, police say.

Police advise students to avoid walking alone from dusk to dawn and say they can call 814-865-9255 for a police or public safety escort on campus.

Students are concerned about the reports.

“It’s really scary to think about how, like at night I could be coming back from the library and something horrible could just happen,” Penn State student Christine Kovell told WJAC.

“I think everyone is just a little more aware now when they’re walking alone and not so nonchalant,” another student, Madison Katz, told the station. “It definitely makes it scarier knowing it, so many people around, maybe that’s why this is happening.”

For now, police say they have just received third-party reports and are working to verify them.
