Pens ‘adapt’ to new roles

“I think ev­ery­body has the abil­ity to adapt to the role that they’re asked to play,” de­fense­man Jack John­son said. “It’s just whether or not you want to do it. But ev­ery­one in here and the phys­i­cal ca­pa­bil­i­ties of do­ing it.”

Kuem­per re­warded: The Coyotes signed goalie Darcy Kuem­per to a two-year con­tract ex­ten­sion through the 2021-22 sea­son with an av­er­age an­nual salary of $4.5 mil­lion.

Kuem­per, 29, had been a ca­reer backup un­til the Coyotes’ No. 1 goalie Antti Raanta suf­fered a sea­son-end­ing in­jury last year.

Kuem­per was 27-20-8 with a 2.33 goals-against av­er­age and .925 save per­cent­age. He’s ex­pected to share time with Raanta this sea­son.
