Shippensburg cancels classes as police seek fatal-shooting suspects

Shippensburg University, saying it was acting out of “an abundance of caution,” canceled classes at 2 p.m. after police said they were looking for two university students in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday night.

State police identified Quentin Eric Furlow, 20, and Steve Wilson, 20, both of Philadelphia, as suspects in the shooting that killed Shakur Richard Myers, 21, of Philadelphia, and left Samir Rodney Stevenson, 21, also of Philadelphia, in critical condition.

The university, in a statement, said Furlow and Wilson “are registered students at Shippensburg University and the university can confirm they are not in class and there is no evidence they are currently on campus.”

WGAL and Fox 43 said the two men who were shot are not students at the university.

Although the university has no indication the men are in the area, the university said police advise that Furlow and Wilson are “armed and dangerous.”

Recognizing that there is “an increased level of anxiety,” the university cancelled classes for the rest of the day, and all other university activities.

Furthermore, the university offered commuters who live close to campus the option of staying on campus.

“Students living on campus are encouraged to return to their residence halls where staff will provide programming and food,” the university said.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. on Rotz Avenue, just blocks from the campus.
