Jackson ‘getting close’ to return
Wide receiver DeSean Jackson is a little closer to returning from an abdominal injury that has kept him out of action since the opening minutes of a Week 2 loss at Atlanta, Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Monday.
“He’s still rehabbing,” Pederson said. “Obviously, he’s working. … We’re going to push him a little bit more this week to do some more running and things like that and we’ll see.
Pederson said Jackson is “getting close” and denied that Jackson has a sports hernia and that surgery was ever a viable option.
“No, nothing like that,” Pederson said. “Just normal rehab. It’s just a strain, as far as I know. You might want to ask our doctors. You know, I’m going to wear a stethoscope in here and a lab coat. … We’re talking about him running this week and getting back out on the field.”
Pederson also said cornerback Sidney Jones, who was active on Sunday but didn’t play, is making progress with his hamstring injury as well and should be able to return to practice this week.
The news on running back Darren Sproles isn’t as encouraging. The veteran running back left Sunday’s game with a quadriceps injury shortly after surpassing Tim Brown for fifth place on the NFL’s all-time all-purpose yardage list.
He’s week-to-week, according to Pederson, whose Eagles won’t play at home again until Nov. 3 against the Bears. Sunday’s game against the Vikings is the first of three straight on the road (Cowboys and Bills).
Roster move: The Eagles on Monday added wide receiver Robert Davis to the practice squad. Washington selected Davis (6-3, 210) in the sixth round of the 2017 draft. The Georgia State product had one catch for 11 yards in three games this season for the Redskins, who cut him last week.
