Celebrity chef cuts rib­bon on Mar­ket

Robert Irvine, celebrity chef and star of nu­mer­ous Food Net­work shows, will make an ap­pear­ance at a spe­cial rib­bon­cut­ting cer­e­mony for the new Down­town Al­len­town Mar­ket on Oct. 11.

The 4 p.m. cer­e­mony will kick off a full-week­end cel­e­bra­tion, called Block Party Week­end, to pro­mote the new food hall on the city’s Art­sWalk. There will be free en­ter­tain­ment and fam­ily ac­tiv­i­ties all week­end long, start­ing Fri­day evening with door prizes, food and drink spe­cials, live mu­sic and more. The mar­ket, which opened late last month, has nine ven­dors fea­tur­ing high-qual­ity, fast-ca­sual food and bev­er­ages, in­clud­ing baked goods, cof­fee, soups, sal­ads, sand­wiches and craft beer.

Irvine’s “Fresh Kitchen” is part of the mar­ket, of­fer­ing freshly pre­pared, unique but ap­proach­able dishes in a fast-ca­sual, diner-style set­ting.

Irvine is the star of nu­mer­ous Food Net­work shows, in­clud­ing “Restau­rant Im­pos­si­ble” and “Din­ner Im­pos­si­ble.”

Other ven­dors in­clude: Lit­tle Miss Korea, an au­then­tic, fresh Korean bowl con­cept with a one-year-old lo­ca­tion at the Al­len­town Fair­grounds Farm­ers Mar­ket; and Batch Mi­cro­cre­am­ery, a startup of­fer­ing made­from-scratch ice cream hand­crafted on-site with fresh in­gre­di­ents.
