Hur­ri­canes’ Marti­nook likely to miss 6-8 weeks

Hur­ri­canes for­ward Jor­dan Marti­nook is ex­pected to miss 6-8 weeks with a core mus­cle in­jury.

GM Don Wad­dell said Thurs­day that Marti­nook will have surgery Fri­day to re­pair the in­jury.

Marti­nook has an as­sist in four games this sea­son, his sec­ond with the team and first as an al­ter­nate cap­tain. He had a ca­reer-best 15 goals plus 10 as­sists while play­ing all 82 reg­u­larsea­son games a year ago, then added four as­sists in 10 play­off games.

Canucks win big: J.T. Miller had a goal and three as­sists to lead the Canucks to an 8-2 vic­tory over the Kings on Wed­nes­day night in Van­cou­ver, British Columbia.

Miller fin­ished the Canucks’ home opener with a ca­reer-high four points, while Bran­don Sut­ter had two goals and an as­sist and Chris Tanev added a goal and an as­sist.

Elias Pet­ters­son, Josh Leivo and Alex Edler also scored for the Canucks. Rookie de­fense­man Quinn Hughes scored his first ca­reer goal.
