Kutztown, East Stroudsbur­g football players dominate all-conference teams

Kutztown senior Collin DiGalbo was voted 2019 Pennsylvan­ia State Athletic Conference Football Eastern Division offensive athlete of the year while Jim Clements was named coach of the year.

Kutztown had 12 other players on the squad.

On the first team offense were Abdul-Hassan Neblett, Justin Tindull, Jayson Williams, and Matt Cella while Ahkee Cox-Cowan and Shawn Turber-Ortiz were on the first team defense.

Earning second-team selections were Jack Pilkerton, Jake Novak, Eric Miller, TwyNique Chisholm-Wilkerson, Chris Thomas, and Nyiem Nevarez.

Seven players from East Stroudsbur­g University were honored with Eastern Division all-conference honors, headlined by first team selections Jordan Walters, Andre Eldridge and Jameer Brooks, with Walters earning both offensive and defensive first team honors as a kicker and punter. Devante Robinson, Joseph Odebode, Andre’ Gray and Rece Bender earned all-conference second team selections.

ESU men’s, women’s hoops teams to be on National Showcase

The East Stroudsbur­g University men’s and women’s basketball teams will be featured nationally on Saturday, Nov. 24, as the NCAA announced that this Sunday’s basketball doublehead­er at IUP has been selected for the Division II National Showcase and will be broadcast via multiple platforms.

The women’s game is at 1:05 p.m., with the men’s contest at 3:05 p.m. Action from both games can be viewed on the PSAC Network as well as the NCAA Division II Facebook page and Twitter account.

ESU, KU field hockey players earn weekly awards

Four days after stopping three-offour penalty strokes and earning a shutout victory in an NCAA first round game at Southern New Hampshire, Kutztown senior goalie Kerri Hanshaw was selected as the National Field Hockey Coaches Associatio­n (NFHCA) Division II defensive player of the week.

The Golden Bears (15-6 overall) won just their second NCAA postseason game in program history, first since 1988. Kutztown advanced to the Final Four to play an NCAA semifinal game against top-seed West Chester at 2 p.m. on Friday at Millersvil­le University. The other national semifinal is second-seed Saint Anselm and third-seed East Stroudsbur­g at 5 p.m.

East Stroudsbur­g sophomore forward Celeste Veenstra was named the Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division II field hockey athlete of the week offense after her goal gave the Warriors a first-round NCAA victory over No. 7 Assumption, 1-0 victory.

ESU, KU women’s soccer players named to all-region teams

East Stroudsbur­g University junior midfielder Haley Skove was named to the Division II Conference Commission­ers Associatio­n (D2CCA) Women’s Soccer All-Atlantic Region second team.

Skove has helped lead No. 23 ESU to a 14-6 record. The Warriors are returning to the NCAA Division II Tournament for a sixth-consecutiv­e season after receiving an at-large bid on Monday night. ESU will face No. 15 Millersvil­le in the NCAA first round at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Bloomsburg University.

Senior captains Kristina Miller and Emily Zwiercan of the Kutztown women’s soccer team have earned another postseason accolade as the duo was selected to the All-Atlantic Region second team.

Moravian football players named to all-conference teams

Seven Moravian College football players have been named to the 2019 Centennial all-conference teams with senior offensive lineman Brett Poling (Emmaus), junior defensive back Jackson Buskirk (Whitehall) and sophomore kick returner/wide receiver Cory Little earning spots on the second team, and junior wide receiver Nick Petros (Bethlehem Catholic), senior running back Roberto Diez (Freedom), senior offensive linemen Tyler Maxsim (Central Catholic) and junior defensive lineman Austin Heisler (Pen Argyl) being selected to the honorable mention squad.

ESU women’s volleyball team advances in PSACs

The East Stroudsbur­g University women’s volleyball team recorded its first PSAC volleyball tournament victory since 2004, defeating Seton Hill 3-1 (28-26, 29-27, 23-25, 26-24) on Tuesday night.

ESU (27-6) advances to the semifinals to face Shippensbu­rg Friday at a time to be determined later.

The semifinals and PSAC Championsh­ip game will be hosted by Gannon on Friday and Saturday.
